Task – Based Instruction (TBI)
* Focuses on the use of authentic language
* Asking Ss to do meaningful tasks using the
target language
* Assessment is based on task outcome and accuracy
of language forms
* The logic involved
* The logical thinking process
* Teacher uses whatever language
* Teacher need to seek ways of knowing how
involved the Ss
* Teacher supplies the correct target form by
reformulating what Ss have said
* The jigsaw task, opportunities to develop their
comprehension and speaking skills
* Ss should receive feedback on their level of
success
* Ss have input into the design and the way that
they carry out the task
* Three types of tasks by Prabhu
1. An information gap (the exchange of
information among participants to complete the task)
2. An opinion gap activity (Ss personal
preference, feeling and attitudes to complete the task)
3. A reasoning gap activity ( Ss drive some new information by inferring it from information they have been given)
